The Wounded Surgeon presents

FOUR QUARTETS

Written by T.S. Eliot

Directed by Patrick Klavins

“Distracted from distraction by distraction.”

T.S. Eliot began writing Four Quartets before, and continued during, the uncertainty and horrors of the Second World War. The work stands as a profound meditation on time, presence, and faith. Across four interlinked poems - Burnt Norton, East Coker, The Dry Salvages, and Little Gidding - Eliot explores the cycles of human experience and our search for purpose and meaning.

Four Quartets is a monumental poetic achievement that contributed to T.S. Eliot being awarded the 1948 Nobel Prize in Literature. Actor Ralph Fiennes, who staged a one-man performance of the poem in recent years, reflected on the piece’s enduring appeal: “I think it deals with such endless essential perennial questions of time, the spirit, the soul, the journey of the soul in life – big, big ideas."

Directed by Patrick Klavins and performed by a cast of four actors, this late-night production invites the audience to pause, breathe, and reflect on our own journey through the world.
