DICK SWINGIN'
DICK SWINGIN'
13 - 18 October
DICK SWINGIN’
by Teale Howie
Directed by Liesel Badorrek
Presented by Legit Theatre Co.
A debonair showman digs up an old underground act and ends up mining more than he bargained for.
-
As a dancing queen raised in a regional mining town, Teale Howie (The Inheritance, Anatomy of a Suicide) knows a thing or two about moonlighting.
Setting his act in the smoky 1920s Prohibition era, Dick Swingin’ sees a darling cabaret showman performing as his company of vaudevillians to stage the greatest show on earth. But as he inhabits each role, our showman realises the pressure of keeping up the facade is too much to bear.
Directed by Hannah Barn and with musical direction by Andy Freeborn, Dick Swingin’ blends Broadway jazz classics with a vaudeville twist, lifting the curtain on rural-bred masculinity, queer expression in a country town and the version of us we perform in order to fit in. -
